If you’ve ever been in Tucson in February, then you probably already know how popular our rodeo is. La Fiesta de los Vaqueros®, also known as the Celebration of the Cowboys, is Tucson’s annual rodeo celebration, which takes place during the second month of the year. You can prepare for this exciting upcoming event by reading our blog about it.

History of La Fiesta de los Vaqueros®

La Fiesta de los Vaqueros® started in 1925, when Leighton Kramer, president of the Arizona Polo Association, came up with the idea as a way to bring more visitors to Tucson during one of the colder parts of the year. During this very first event, known as La Fiesta de los Vaqueros and the Tucson Mid-Winter Rodeo and Parade, Tucson residents and visitors gathered to watch and admire the skills of cowboys in the Wild West. Since 1925, residents and visitors have gathered each February to celebrate the rodeo and parade festivities.

What to Expect in 2018

2018 marks the 93rd annual rodeo celebration and parade here in Tucson, which starts on Saturday, February 17th and ends on Sunday, February 25th. The gates will open at 11 a.m. on the first day, with rodeo events starting at noon. There will also be a Coors Barn Dance from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. to close out the first night. Over the next week, the event will host many more rodeo activities as well as the parade and activities like barrel racing and steer wrestling.

Children’s Events for 2018

The rodeo offers events for guests of all ages, including plenty of events for children. Young boys and girls can participate in RAM Mutton Bustin’ and the Justin Junior Rodeo Exhibition on each rodeo day.
